With all the excursions and sightseeing going on very well, my companions wanted to spend an afternoon shopping at Mall road for a change before we began our next lot of outings. While I am an avid shopper myself, I opted to relax and unwind at the Oberoi spa since we had visited a few of the local markets. Needless to say, I had made the maximum purchases so far! I love a good spa session, and Shimla had really got me in an absolute holiday mood! Although we were staying at the Radisson, that didn’t quite stop me from dropping into Wildflower Hall, the hillside resort of the Oberoi group of hotels. Fortunately for me, since it wasn’t peak season, I was granted an appointment for the afternoon without much hassle.
The main reason I chose this Spa is because it offers a variety of Asian, Western as well as Ayurvedic treatments. Moreover, their Spa overlooked the lush pine forests of Shimla and the snow
laden mountains beyond; an absolute treat for the eyes too! One of the unique sessions on their list are the massage therapies based on the five elements such as Earth, Fire, Wind, Water and
Space. Revitalizing body therapies, skin and nail care and Ayurvedic massages were other options that I could choose from.
After a few minutes of intense debating with myself, I chose their signature indigenous therapies. I opted to combine two of their therapies: Journey to Tibet and Himalayan Romance. While the former focuses on a warm poultice made of assorted herbs and a massage with the therapeutic hum of Tibetan singing bowls in the background; the latter was made up of a body exfoliation session of Indian spices, a massage which is concluded by a relaxing session with the magnificent Himalayas in view. By the end of four hours, I was feeling more relaxed than I had ever felt in a long time. The top quality Oberoi spa session had truly rejuvenated my senses. A Spa session in the mountains was one of the last things on my mind when we set out for our trip to Shimla, but it was certainly one of the most soothing afternoons of my holiday!
